Village has been a busy these last few weeks - we have
busied ourselves with research into the common lifestyles (and lifespans!), trades and occupations of 1300's, and have created our Peeps and imbued them with personalities and personal histories. Peeps will be coming from all over Eurasia; From England to Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka), through Egypt, the Middle East, the Italian Peninsula and all points in between, and are preparing to embark on a dangerous journey to Aquiliea, a small town outside of Venice Italy. Peeps will be risking life and limb as they weather storms, bandits and who knows what else, to travel for months through deserts, over mountains, down rivers and across seas to converge on Aquiliea with the goal of establishing it as a new and vibrant port city on the glorious Silk Road.
Villagers research inventions and major events of the 1300's and build their own historical timeline.
Last week Villagers traced a map of 1300 AD Eurasia onto this cloth - this week the map really begins to take shape as color is added! Throughout our Village year more details will be added to the map, which will be used as a living game board for our historically themed village. One of the many beautiful projects that the Villagers will undertake!
Villagers find their Peeps country's of origin on the now dry map.
Each Peep introduces him or herself to the Village Community on the Medieval Castle/Stage: Their names, where they were born, their skill or trade and ancestry, and nearly all of the Peeps recount highlights of their many adventures!
Peeps like to be a part of EVERYTHING that goes on - sitting on a shelf or in some dark shoe box is NOT their idea of a good time! But Villagers generally need both hand free to keep up with all that they have going on - the solution? Villagers hand sew practical (and beautiful!) little Peep Pouches so that the needs of both Peeps AND Villagers can be met with ease!
