Our last Village morning started much as any other: "Read the Announcements Board, pay homage to the Gods, gather your Building Team and building project and continue working on the Villa" - - - ho hum....But then, in the midst of settling into their work, the Villagers and Peeps heard a banging on the door. What? Who bangs on the door in the middle of Village? After debating that nagging question for a moment or so one brave soul opened it to find....a tired and bedraggled horse, pulling a dusty travel wagon, Omar at the helm and Senator Quintus Furvus Gallio, tired and dirty from the long journey, snuggled inside. Beating the dust and grime from his travel stained cloths the Senator emerged, greeting all, eager to see the Villa, and with news from Rome. There is still no word from Caesar, although he is reported as still making his way slowly to Rome. With such uncertainty people are hoping for the best, that he leave his troops on the far side of the Rubicon, and preparing for the worst, civil war. Patricians and Plebeians alike continue to flock away from the city....such tumultuous times!
The Senator, uncertain of the condition of his Villa, made plans to spend the day with his cousin a few miles distant, giving the Villagers and Peeps time to prepare at least rudimentary accommodations for he and the family, who are but a few hours behind him. After a brief tour of the buildings, and having Omar distribute funds for detail work on the Villa and assurances that he would most certainly return at the end of the day and fully expected to be made comfortable, the Senator departed. No sooner had he and Omar pulled out of the Villa yard, than the Villagers made plans for how best to lodge their benefactor and set promptly to work. There were beds to be made, rooms to paint, and supper to be made!
