Excitement was high this past Friday - So much to do and so little time!
Of course there was a lot of building happening throughout the day and, as an unexpected surprise, the Villagers received an advance on their payment from the Senator! This influx of cash was much appreciated by the Villagers, all of whom have been working hard on the Senator's Villa. They are, of course, now eager to spend their money on something - surely the Village Trading Post will open soon...
We were joined by two new Villagers and so, of course, there was the a lot of Peep making and Peep socializing. There were also two baby Peeps born to the couple married not too long ago - Our Village is growing by leaps and bounds!
Caesars troops have begun filtering back from the outer reaches of the Republic and with them have come the many spoils of war, including the poor unfortunates from conquered countries who now find themselves enslaved and no longer free to choose their own fates. A slave auction was held at the closing of our Village day, and the Villagers who chose to make such a purchase were happy of the help they can now expect. This unfortunate aspect of human activity - both war and slavery - reenacted within the context of a game, will open up an avenue for research and powerful conversations on the practice of slavery overall and specifically in Ancient Rome, leading to a greater personal understanding of this, rightfully so, delicate subject.
